End of November update

Chers parents,

Thank you for coming to our activity conferences.  We had 100% participation.  MERCI!  It was wonderful seeing you all interacting with your children.  They were all very proud to show you what they know.

We are finishing our O’ Canada booklets today and we will begin some Christmas themed activities in December.  We have finished adding words to our MIMI poster.  I have posted the words here below. *I did not get them sent home in the dossiers today.*

Please remember there is no school tomorrow for students, as there are conferences and professional planning time for teachers.

Recently you received an email asking for your consent to share your contact information with our Home and School Association; the form is a pdf.  This enables the association to inform you of events and ask for volunteers.  This is separate from school consent forms.  If you can send that in as soon as possible this would be a great help.  I would like to say thanks to our room parent Suzanne for volunteering for this position.

I will also be sending home a calendar for December.  For our sharing time I will send home a paper.  This will be about our favourite family tradition.  “Ma tradition de famille préférée.”

I am looking forward to these sharing times.

Merci!

Mme Jennifer Wallace

It is wonderful to be a part of this community. I encourage parents and students to find out what this community has to offer and get involved.  Or just talk a walk...Allez-y pour une promenade!

A short update:
Currently the students and I are doing quite a lot of testing for Early Years Evaluation.  We are working on our O' Canada booklets in class.  We are finished our first MIMI poster and have begun a new poster today.

Remembrance Day ~ Le Jour de Souvenir / L'armistice

Thank you to the moms who joined us on the walk to McQuarries.  It was a wonderful visit with John and Darcy.  John shared with us part of his own story about two soldiers.   His uncle and his wife's uncle both fought in opposing forces in the Second World War.  Had they lived to see today they would be sharing in a meal around the same table.  They also shared some war memorabilia from Saskatoon and Dakota Whitecap First Nation.   It was a great learning experience.

We also have been reading books to help us learn and remember:

In Flander Fields ( The poem, about the poem and John McCrae)

Pourquoi?  by Nikolai Popov

Grandpa Green by Lane Smith

We have been enjoying our presentations on favourite places in Canada and learning more about where we live.  Our big book of our Hymne National-- O Canada! is almost complete and the student will begin illustrating their own booklets of the anthem.

Remenbrance day walk

Chers parents,

We have begun a theme focusing on Canada and on Remembrance Day. Our Remembrance Day service is tomorrow at 10:45am in the gym. Before that I would like to take the class on a very short walk to McQuarries Tea and CoffeeMerchants to look and learn about the Remembrance Day display in the window. We will leave the school at 9:30am. Mme McCrea’s class will be returning at that time. If you can come on the short walk—we have to make two crossings—please let me know. Please remember there is no school Friday or Monday.

"C'est l'automne" et "Les formes"

These are characters to accompany your first at home reading booklets that came in the plastic bags in your child's dossier.  Feel free to listen to your child read along.  The character can pause if need be.
