Joyeux Noel et Bonne Annee
Thank you all for the lovely thoughtful and generous gifts. Mrs. Lamb-Auckland and I were very touched. We had a fun day to end the year and send us into the holidays. We enjoyed a wonderful musical concert/assembly and then shared in some games with Mme McCrea's class. We ended with phys. ed. I will send a new calendar on the 6th and newsletter. Our theme will be winter and winter activities. We will also start a new poster. Thank you again for a great send off for the holidays. I hope that you all enjoy good health and a wonderful time with family and friends over the break and in the new year. See you in 2014!

Les dix jours de Noel
This is our Christmas booklet that we have been working on entitled "Les dix jours de Noël" to the tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas." The time on the Voki characters only allow for one minute and our booklet/song takes three minutes and thirty seconds. This character sings the end of our booklet starting from "le dixième jour de Noël." The voices are your children, Mme Wallace and Mme Lamb-Auckland Enjoy!

WDM
Thank you Suzanne, Shannon and Sarah for helping with our trip to the Western Development Museum. We had a wonderful visit and enjoyed the Christmas Long Ago program. As one little girl kept saying, "That is old fashioned!" We certainly enjoyed some old fashioned fun!

New MIMI glog
We are well into the month of December and we are looking forward to "A Christmas Long Ago" program at the WDM next week. We have worked with clay to do some ornaments: les ornements en argile. We are also doing a countdown calendar that represents either Santa or a snowman: Le pere Noel ou les bonhommes de neige. We are working on booklets as well that has is a variation of a familiar song called: "Les dix jours de Noel." So far we have had some wonderful sharing with the topic: Une tradition de ma famille. There are not many days left until the holidays.
We are into cold weather as well as weakened immune systems. Please ensure that your household is well rested and well dressed so that we can all enjoy the last days we have of 2013. MERCI!
Please note: Beside this post under MIMI is the new glog poster La salle de classe. Follow the link. It has audio to go with the poster and words.

End of November update
Chers
parents,
Thank you
for coming to our activity conferences. We
had 100% participation. MERCI! It was wonderful seeing you all interacting
with your children. They were all very
proud to show you what they know.
We are
finishing our O’ Canada booklets today and we will begin some Christmas themed
activities in December. We have finished
adding words to our MIMI poster. I have posted the words here below. *I did not get them sent home in the dossiers today.*
Please
remember there is no school tomorrow for students, as there are conferences and
professional planning time for teachers.
Recently you
received an email asking for your consent to share your contact information
with our Home and School Association; the form is a pdf. This enables the association to inform you of
events and ask for volunteers. This is
separate from school consent forms. If
you can send that in as soon as possible this would be a great help. I would like to say thanks to our room parent
Suzanne for volunteering for this position.
I will also
be sending home a calendar for December.
For our sharing time I will send home a paper. This will be about our favourite family
tradition. “Ma tradition de famille
préférée.”
I am looking
forward to these sharing times.
Merci!

It is wonderful to be a part of this community. I encourage parents and students to find out what this community has to offer and get involved. Or just talk a walk...Allez-y pour une promenade!
A short update:
Currently the students and I are doing quite a lot of testing for Early Years Evaluation. We are working on our O' Canada booklets in class. We are finished our first MIMI poster and have begun a new poster today.

Remembrance Day ~ Le Jour de Souvenir / L'armistice
Thank you to the moms who joined us on the walk to McQuarries. It was a wonderful visit with John and Darcy. John shared with us part of his own story about two soldiers. His uncle and his wife's uncle both fought in opposing forces in the Second World War. Had they lived to see today they would be sharing in a meal around the same table. They also shared some war memorabilia from Saskatoon and Dakota Whitecap First Nation. It was a great learning experience.
We also have been reading books to help us learn and remember:
In Flander Fields ( The poem, about the poem and John McCrae)
Pourquoi? by Nikolai Popov
Grandpa Green by Lane Smith
We have been enjoying our presentations on favourite places in Canada and learning more about where we live. Our big book of our Hymne National-- O Canada! is almost complete and the student will begin illustrating their own booklets of the anthem.

Remenbrance day walk
Chers parents,
We have begun a theme focusing on Canada and on Remembrance Day. Our Remembrance Day service is tomorrow at 10:45am in the gym. Before that I would like to take the class on a very short walk to McQuarries Tea and CoffeeMerchants to look and learn about the Remembrance Day display in the window. We will leave the school at 9:30am. Mme McCrea’s class will be returning at that time. If you can come on the short walk—we have to make two crossings—please let me know. Please remember there is no school Friday or Monday.

"C'est l'automne" et "Les formes"
These are characters to accompany your first at home reading booklets that came in the plastic bags in your child's dossier. Feel free to listen to your child read along. The character can pause if need be.

Chers parents,
C’est l’halloween, hé! We had a little parade in the school with Mme McCrea’s class. The children looked wonderful. Please remember to be safe trick-or- treating this evening. There is also a carnival at the school starting at 4pm. In the dossier there is a card if your child would like to also collect donations from the food bank while he or she goes trick-or-treating. We are completing our first MIMI poster. Keep reviewing and having fun with the words at home. Invite your child to teach you some new French words. I will also be sending home our first books for reading tomorrow. If you have not signed up for a time for activity conferences on Wednesday, Nov. 27th please send that in your child’s dossier, or you can call the school for a time. In November, we will also learn about Remembrance Day: Le jour de souvenir ~L’armistice. We will work on booklets that teach O’ Canada in French. If you have any old Canadian magazines or calendars that can be used to cut out pictures please send them along in your child’s dossier. The booklets will include your child’s drawings as well as collages. Check the calendar for your child’s special day. On your child's special day he or she may talk about a favourite place or family trip in Canada. Because we have fewer days in November and December some children will be sharing their special days. Thank you for your understanding. Pictures or objects of that special place in Canada on his or her special day are welcome. Merci! Mme J. Wallace

Activity conferences
lundi le 28 octobre 2013
Chers parents,
This is to inform you
about activity conferences. Kindergarten
is different from Grades 1 – 8. Although
all of the other students in the school receive report cards in November, the
Kindergarten students do not. We continue to evaluate and the first report
cards for Kindergarten students are in March.
We will be having activity conferences for students and their parents in
November. Our activity conference evening is Wednesday November 27th
from 4pm -7:15pm. The sign up times
will include four slots. The times
indicated on the note are the start time and finish time for each
grouping. Each half hour session has
four students (and their parents) in it.
There will be four activity areas/ stations where your child
will demonstrate skills to you. You will have a note paper to make observations
as you go. I will be circulating and can
answer questions as you go through the activities. I keep track of the time so that we do not go
over time for each activity
I am sending home a
schedule for activity conferences. Please look it over and write down your
first and second choices for times.
If you do not send your preferred times I will find a slot
to fit you in. Thank you for your
attention to this and I look forward to meeting with you and your children
then!
*Also note there is no school for students as it is a
learning day for teachers November 8th and no school November 11th
for Remembrance Day. We will have a
field trip on Thursday, December the 12th to the Western Development
Museum. Please let me know if you will
be joining us on this trip. The theme is
“A Christmas Long Ago.”
Sincèrement,
Mme Wallace

Oops! Pardon!
I looked at the calendar and noticed that it said that there will be a trip to the Pumpkin Patch. I am sorry. This was an error--I use old calendars and reconfigure them and I missed this one. I hope that I have not caused any problems and disappointments! My apologies. I often tell the students not to be afraid to make mistakes and that Madame Wallace makes mistakes too--case in point.
Thank you to those who joined us on our walk to Pooh Corner. We had a great time and had a wonderful walk back as well with a stop for a snack. Please remember to keep Saskatoon Public Library books separate from our school library books which have a scan label: Saskatoon Public Schools. It is easy to confuse them. We continue to have school library time on Tuesdays.
Another thank you for the wonderful participation with the colour days. Today was our arc-en-ciel day and the collages the children contributed to are quite lovely.

MIMI rencontre Glogster
Hello all. Joyeuse L'action de grâce! I hope everyone is enjoying a good Thanksgiving weekend. To the right of this post under the heading "MIMI" is a link called: Notre classe. This link will get you to a poster with audio that you can play with the words on the poster. This will help with pronunciation for checking with your child. Let me know how you find this tool!

Jaune et Bleu
It is so wonderful to see the colours of fall and in our class. We collected leaves with les cali-partenaires (our care partners) yesterday and did les frottages (rubbings) today.
